The Crystal Well
The Story
The three individuals sitting around the table each had their own challenge to solve, yet all converged into a shared goal: the creation of a full-scale crystal well.
Giampiero Muzzi, the photographer, wanted to see his vision come to life. Duccio Santini, the architect, sought to provide an innovative design response. Vasco Conti, the owner of the Duccio di Segna glassworks in Colle di Val d’Elsa, aimed to showcase the quality and potential of his Tuscan handcrafted crystal company. Three challenges in one—an ambitious endeavor for all.
The process moved forward through endless discussions, constructive reconsiderations, trials, and modifications. Finally, the definitive choices bore fruit: the various components of the well took shape. Vasco had a room specially created for the crystal well, soon named the “drawing room”. Duccio sketched the shapes directly on the walls, refining and defining them before Vasco’s artisanal mastery transformed them into reality.
Day by day, the well took form, while Giampiero documented its creation through carefully composed photographs, capturing unique angles and sophisticated lighting effects.
Now, this extraordinary journey has come to an end. The three creators have achieved their goals and, instead of sitting around the table, now walk proudly around their completed artwork—an artistic installation that cannot merely be described but must be seen and admired.
This project represents the perfect fusion of handcrafted Tuscan crystal production and innovation, celebrating the tradition of Italian crystal with a one-of-a-kind creation.
Crafted with the renowned expertise of Colle di Val d’Elsa Crystal, the birthplace of the finest crystal production in Tuscany, this well stands out for its elegance and refinement, paying tribute to one of the most prestigious Italian artisanal traditions.
